Intermediate & Advanced Level / Performance Program Summer Programs

Our intermediate and advanced level summer programs cater to our Performance Program students.

This quarantine will pass and before we know it, we’ll be back in the studio together.  Meanwhile, it’s important for dancers to stay mentally and physically healthy this summer so they are ready for the competition/performance season ahead of them when we return.  No time will be lost if we keep moving!

In addition to the classes we provide via Zoom,  students in our intermediate and advanced level summer camps have the opportunity to take advantage of WSPA’s partnership with CLI Studios, gaining access to classes in contemporary, jazz, hip hop, theatre dance, and more from International Master Teachers.  For more info on our CLI Studios partnership, see the end of this document.

For Camp/Intensive Placement Inquiries:

For students new to WSPA, we ask that you submit a video of your dancer so he/she can be placed in the correct level.

-The video can be shot on your smartphone and in the comfort of your home.

-Proper ballet attire is necessary.

-Do not worry about accompanying music or repeating the exercise on both sides.

Below you will find some professional dance links that your child can follow:

Barre Work:

-Plie combination in 1st,  2nd; & 5th, Battement tendus en croix (front, side, back); rise and relevé in 1st and 2nd

-Développé - https://youtu.be/m4A6PLeGIB4

-Grand Battement - https://youtu.be/BVM8AP3luyI

Center Work:

-Relevé:  https://youtu.be/dim7AaoQrC8 (in demi pointe or full pointe)

Please submit your short videos to wspa1@sbcglobal.net

Subject:  NAME OF YOUR CHILD - Video Audition.

How to prepare for class:

Please set up your child in a safe space at home where the following items are easily accessible to them..

  1. A ballet barre, counter ledge or chair for barre work.  If you are able and interested, here is a link to a DIY Ballet Barre that can help your dancer during class.  If you do not glue the bottom joints, the barre can be flattened against a wall and can be put away when not in use.

  2. 5’x 5’ area of danceable space with a usable dance floor and the least amount of distractions.  You can purchase this shower pan liner from Home Depot to lay over your hardwood floor that has a similar texture to Marley, the flooring in traditional dance studios.  It can be taped down with blue tape or it can be rolled up and put away when not in use.

  3. Prepared snack and water for short breaks, within reach of the students.

  4. Mat for your child to sit on for floor exercises.

Blue Camp

Recommended to Jr. 3, 4, and 5.  Students in this level were either working toward beginning pointe work, or they just recently began pointe work when the Shelter in Place mandate abruptly stopped their training.  Ms. Tina is ready to keep their bodies strong, in shape, and ready for pre-pointe work in the fall with her virtual classes this summer.  Pointe work in this level without in-person supervision is not recommended, therefore, the virtual technique classes will concentrate on strengthening students’ bodies in preparation for pointe.  Students will definitely gain a stronger core, maintain their shape and be prepared to begin or continue towards pointe work in the Fall.  Hopefully, they will be ready to take the stage in the demanding Nutcracker production this Winter.

Students in the Blue Camp will have the option to take additional classes with WSPA alumni teachers Kira Fargas, Alexis Pineda, and Melissa Batesting in contemporary, jazz, and urban dance.

Pre-Professional Summer Intensive

Earning a spot in the year-round Professional Division is a challenge by itself, and more so with the Shelter in Place mandate that prevents students from training intensely in a face-to-face studio setting.

But worry no more, Ms. Tina and Ms. Irene will be able to help you maintain your core-strength, flexibility, jumps and pointe work with hands-on daily technique classes in our Pre-Professional summer intensive.

In addition to daily ballet work, students will have the option to take classes with WSPA alumni teachers Kira Fargas, Alexis Pineda, and Melissa Batesting in contemporary, jazz, and urban dance accordingly.

Last but not least, students in this level will have the opportunity to take advantage of WSPA’s partnership with CLI Studios, gaining access to classes in contemporary, jazz, hip hop, theatre dance, and more from International Master Teachers.
